Jay Levin - Nashville Predators
The Nashville Predators travel to Baltimore, MD to face the Washington Capitals tonight, the first of two preseason meetings between the two squads. The teams will rematch September 28 in Nashville. The game will serve as a homecoming of sorts for Preds GM David Poile and Preds Head Coach Barry Trotz. Trotz coached the Baltimore Skipjacks for the 1992-93 season. The Skipjacks were the AHL affiliate for the Washington Capitals; David Poile was Washington's General Manager while the Skipjacks were affiliated with the Capitals.
Nashville is coming off a rare hockey split-squad doubleheader yesterday at the Florida Panthers. The Preds won Game 1 yesterday 5-3 behind three-point efforts from Sergei Kostitsyn
(3a) and Colin Wilson
(1g-2a). The Panthers took Game 2, 4-3.
Five Preds are slated to make their preseason debuts in tonight's game: Defensemen Roman Josi
, Ryan Suter
and Shea Weber
, Forward Martin Erat
and Goaltender Pekka Rinne
Twenty of the 25 players listed on the Preds travel roster for tonight's game saw action in one of the two games yesterday, including goaltender Jeremy Smith
(started Game 1; stopped 14-of-15 shots in a half-game's action) and eight skaters who recorded a point in yesterday's games. Colin Wilson
(1g-2a) and Matt Halischuk
(2a) had multi-point showings yesterday. Teemu Laakso
, Jani Lajunen
, Chris Mueller
and Ryan Thang
each netted a goal yesterday, while Taylor Beck
and Tyler Sloan
both picked up an assist yesterday.
Tonight's game against Washington will be broadcast live on the Preds Radio Network, including new flagship station 102.5 The Game. Click here to listen to the broadcast live
