Dallas Stars vs. Nashville Predators
Six of the Predators last eight goals scored – dating back to the third period at Ottawa on Oct. 22 – have been scored by special teams. Nashville has four power-play goals in the last four games, going 4-for-18 (22 percent), in addition shorthanded tallies in the past two contests. Nashville is the only team in the league with less than two major penalties (1)… Nashville is 4-1-0 when scoring the first goal of the game…Pekka Rinne has picked up the win in his last three appearances, and has not allowed a goal in 99:09, stopping 34 consecutive shots… J.P. Dumont has points in back-to-back games (1g-1a), and has seven points (2g-5a) in the last four games. He is in sole possession of the team lead in points (3g-6a), despite playing only eight games… Jerred Smithson is one of just four players in the NHL – along with Florida’s Radek Dvorak, Columbus’s Rick Nash and Ottawa’s Milan Michalek – with multiple shorthanded goals… Shea Weber, ranked first on the team in goals, and second in points (4g-4a), is tied for second in the League in goals by a defenseman… Joel Ward has three points in his last four games (1g-2a), including points in back-to-back contests (1g-1a)… Francis Bouillon is tied for third among NHL blueliners in hits (35), and tied for 11th among all skaters.

The Preds are 3-2-0 all-time in games played on October 31, including a two-game winning streak on Halloween. The Preds picked up a 3-2 win at home vs. Colorado on Oct. 31, 1998. Nashville than dropped identical 2-4 decisions in 1999 (at Edmonton) and 2000 (vs. St. Louis). The On Oct. 31, 2001 the Preds won at Minnesota 6-4 and won again at Vancouver in 2006, 3-2.
Nashville Head Coach Barry Trotz won his 369th game – all with Nashville – on Thursday night vs. Chicago, moving him to within one victory of Punch Imlach (Toronto, 1958-69 and 1979-80) for seventh on the all-time wins with one team list. Trotz has spent 832 games behind the Predators bench, leaving him just 10 away from tying Glen Sather’s tenure with the Edmonton Oilers (1979-94) for seventh in games coached with a single team.

The Predators close out the first month of the 2009-10 regular season with the same opponent they started it with – the Dallas Stars. Nashville played its first two road games of the season in Texas, first defeating the Stars in a shootout on opening night (3-2), then dropping a 6-0 decision at American Airlines Center on Oct. 14. Jason Arnott posted a pair of points (1g-1a) in the victory, while rookie Mike Santorelli ended the second-longest shootout in franchise history with his first career attempt in the fifth round. David Legwand also solved Marty Turco in the penalty-shot competition, while Dan Ellis stopped four-of-five shooters after turning aside a season-high 38 shots in regulation.

The home team won all four contests in last season’s Preds-Stars series, and Nashville holds an 11-8-1 advantage all-time against Dallas at the Sommet Center. Last season on home ice, Ellis stopped a combined 46-of-47 shots, defeating his former team 3-1 in the home opener on Oct. 11, before shutting them out with a 3-0 win on Dec. 13.

Since the start of the 2007-08 season, both Arnott (4g-6a) and J.P. Dumont (4g-6a) have 10 points in 10 games against Dallas. Arnott had 184 points (79g-105a) in 236 games over parts of three seasons with Dallas from 2002-06… Ellis has faced the team that drafted him 60th overall in the 2000 Entry Draft nine times since joining the Predators for the 2007-08 season, recording five wins and a pair of shutouts.
