Red Wings-Predators Preview

GAME: Detroit Red Wings (21-10-3-1) at Nashville Predators (14-12-2-2).

TIME: Saturday, 8 p.m. EST.

The NHL-leading Detroit Red Wings hope to re-establish their dominance of the Nashville Predators when they visit the Gaylord Entertainment Center.

The Red Wings entered this season with a 17-4-4-2 all-time record against the Predators, but have dropped the first two meetings this year. The Red Wings, 6-4-2-1 all-time at Nashville, yielded nine goals in those two losses.

Detroit is coming off a 3-2 home win over Chicago on Friday, its fourth straight victory. The Red Wings improved to 10-1-1-1 in their last 13 games, getting goals from Brendan Shanahan, Nicklas Lidstrom and Ray Whitney, who returned from a groin injury.

Manny Legace made 30 saves, filling in for flu-ridden Curtis Joseph. It was the first start in eight games for Legace, who learned only early in the afternoon that he would play.

"You've got to be prepared," said Legace, who played for the first time since Dec. 6. "You never know what's going to happen. Hockey's a funny game."

His performance didn't surprise Detroit coach Dave Lewis.

"Manny has the ability to come off the bench at any time and come out and play well," Lewis said.

After a franchise-record six-game win streak, the Predators are winless in their last five (0-2-1-2), including a 5-4 overtime loss at Montreal on Thursday.

Jason York, Scott Walker, Jeremy Stevenson and Rem Murray scored for Nashville, which allowed the Canadiens to go 4-for-5 on the power play. The Predators had killed 37 of their previous 38 penalties.

"I'd say disappointing is an understatement," Predators defenseman Mark Eaton said. "When you have the lead four times you have to bear down, especially on the penalty kill. We didn't get the job done."

York's goal was his first since Jan. 27, ending a 61-game drought. Murray extended his goal streak to three games.

Leading scorer David Legwand, however, has no goals and two assists over his last six games.
