Director of Hockey Operations
Brian Poile enters his third season with the Nashville Predators as the Director of Hockey Operations in 2011-12. Poile's primary responsibilities for the team include managing the club's roster, research and negotiating player contracts, salary arbitration and overseeing minor league affiliation agreements with the American Hockey League’s Milwaukee Admirals and ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones. He is also involved with fiscal and strategic planning, evaluating pro and amateur players and managing the club’s payroll, salary cap and compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, as well as the day-to-day business operations of the hockey department.
Poile began his career with the NHL’s Dallas Stars, spending one season as the Stars’ Director of Team Services and three seasons as the Director of Hockey Operations for their AHL affiliate, the Utah Grizzlies, in Salt Lake City. In his role in Utah, Poile managed the Grizzlies hockey department, club roster, budget, player contracts, team travel, schedules, training camps, scouting and player call-ups. He also served as an Alternate Team Governor, in addition to managing NHL/ECHL affiliation agreements and the AHL, Professional Hockey Players Association and Collective Bargaining Agreement issues.
Hockey roots run deep in the Poile family. He is the son of Predators’ President of Hockey Operations/General Manager, David Poile, and grandson of Hockey Hall of Fame Inductee, Norman "Bud" Poile. Poile earned his bachelor's degree in communications at Boston College in 2000.
Poile, his wife, Valerie, and dogs, Wiley and Dexter, reside in Nashville.
