Nashville Predators Hot Wing Faceoff at Bridgestone Arena a Success

The 2014 Nashville Predators Hot Wing Faceoff, a new event to the Preds ever-growing calendar of summer events, brought more than 700 fans downtown to sample wings from eight Nashville-area wing spots. To both fans in attendance and those just walking by Bridgestone Arena on Saturday afternoon, the smell of hot wings in the air was not to be missed.

Representatives from Bolton’s Spicy Chicken and Fish, Brother Z’s Wang Shack, Corner Pub, Crows Nest, Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, Mineo’s Wings Pizza and Raw Bar, Sam’s Sports Grill and food truck Smokin Thighs served their best wings to the hungry crowd, many of which could be seen grilling, smoking or frying their wings on the plaza during the event. With wings and ranch dipping sauce a plenty, fans lined up around the concourse to wait for their first chance at sampling the wings. Click here for photos.

Each restaurant, whose name was not revealed until after voting had closed, was identified by a different colored toothpick. After fans had tasted the wings and decided on their favorite they dropped the toothpick of their favorite wing into marked boxes.

While fans ate until their hearts’ content and listened to live music, a celebrity judge panel including Miss Nashville Kaileigh Bullard, 102.5 The Game’s Darren McFarland and Joe Dubin, News Channel 2’s Justin Bruce, 102.9 The Buzz’s Zigz and Nashville Predators Alumnus Jay More sampled wings and took notes on some of their favorites.

After votes were counted using a combined total of judge’s favorites and fan votes, Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken received the Golden Apron and was named Nashville’s Best Hot Wing. Gus’s, whose first store was opened in the 1950’s in Mason, Tennessee, east of Memphis, is located on Old Hickory Boulevard in Brentwood. Rounding out the Top Three was Brother Z’s Wang Shack (off Dickerson Pike in Nashville), who came in second place, and Mineo’s Wings Pizza and Raw Bar (on Mayfield Drive in Franklin) in third.

In addition to receiving unlimited wing tastings, fans in attendance received a voucher for a ticket to a Predators regular season home game in October or November (excluding Opening Night).
