2014 NHL Draft Prospects Profiles: Brendan Perlini
Brendan Perlini may have taken an unconventional path to the 2014 NHL Entry Draft yet his experience playing in England, Canada and the United States is what he says got him to this point.

Brendan Perlini may have taken an unconventional path to the 2014 NHL Entry Draft yet his experience playing in England, Canada and the United States is what he says got him to this point.

Perlini was born in Guildford, England where his father Fred Perlini was a long-time international hockey standout with the Guildford Flames of the British National League. Brendan followed in his father’s footsteps and began playing hockey at a young age at a rink in London, England.

While Perlini admits England didn’t have the biggest hockey market it still allowed him to develop an international hockey perspective, a perspective that has helped him grow into the player he is today.

Perlini moved to Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario when he was 9 years old and began playing minor hockey with the Soo Greyhounds Minor Bantam team. Perlini then played two more years of minor hockey in suburban Detroit with the Belle Tire Bantam AAA team before being drafted by the Barrie Colts in the first round, 16th overall, of the 2012 OHL Priority Draft.

Perlini played 32 games with the Colts before being dealt to the Niagara Ice Dogs on Jan. 9, 2013. The following season Perlini went on to lead his new team in goals and was second on the team in total points (34g-27a-71pts).

Perlini also had success (4g-1a-5pts) at the international level helping Team Canada claim Bronze at the 2014 Under-18 World Championship.

Scouts agree that Perlini is an elite skater with great stick-handling and shooting abilities. Look for him to be drafted early in the first round.

Scout’s Comments:

“He plays an unselfish game moving the puck around and he gets his stick on pucks and arrives on time for chances. He's a good shooter and has a good touch finishing chances.” - Dan Marr, Director of NHL Central Scouting
