Rinne to Wear Fan Designed Mask Sunday vs. Washington
Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne to Wear Fan Designed Mask Sunday vs. Washington

Nashville, Tenn. – During the month of January, Nashville Predators fans had the opportunity to participate in the Design the Mask contest presented by AT&T. Fans submitted designs for a new Pekka Rinne mask through the internet, the Design My app or in person at an AT&T store.

The three finalists, chosen from more than 150 entries, were selected by Rinne and put online to have the winner picked by fan vote. Fans chose Middle Tennessee State University student Scott Sulfridge’s design that incorporates Preds gold, a guitar and the Nashville skyline, as the winner.

After being selected, Sulfridge’s design was sent to the NHL for approval and then on to Sweden for Dave Gunnarsson of DAVEART to paint. Gunnarsson, who has been painting goalie masks for more than 20 years, creates all of Rinne’s masks.

On Sunday, March 30, Sulfridge will get to see his design in game action as Rinne sports the mask for the Preds game against the Washington Capitals. Sulfridge will attend the Preds morning skate to meet Pekka and get a first look at his design. Following the game, Sulfridge will get to keep the game worn mask.
