Bridgestone Arena Nominated for 2013 Arena of the Year Award by Pollstar Magazine

Nashville Tenn. – Bridgestone Arena, home of the National Hockey League’s Nashville Predators, has been nominated for the 2013 Pollstar Concert Industry Arena of the Year Award. This is the seventh consecutive nomination and tenth overall for Bridgestone Arena.

Additionally, Bridgestone Arena’s very own David Kells has been nominated as Pollstar’s Facility Executive of the Year. Kells has been with Bridgestone Arena and the Nashville Predators since 2005. During his tenure he has served as the Conversion Manager, Event Manager, Director of Marketing and is currently the Vice President of Booking.

“We are equally proud and humbled by this seventh consecutive nomination for Pollstar’s Arena of the Year Award. This award is just another step towards fulfilling our mission statement which reads, ‘Bridgestone Arena is the #1 sports and entertainment venue in the United States and its centerpiece is the Stanley Cup champion Nashville Predators hockey team,’” Bridgestone Arena and Nashville Predators COO Sean Henry said.

“We take pride in keeping this arena at the forefront of the industry,” Henry said, “From the quality of shows that take the stage and the number of fans who walk through the doors. Our employees are committed and deliver a world-class experience for guests, performers and players.”

Five other arenas have been nominated for this international honor, including the Barclays Center (Brooklyn, NY), the BOK Center (Tulsa, OK), Madison Square Garden (New York, NY), SAP Center at San Jose (San Jose, CA) and the Staples Center (Los Angeles, CA). The 25th Annual Pollstar Concert Industry Awards Ceremony will take place on Feb. 21 during the Pollstar Live! Awards Party at Ryman Auditorium (Nashville).

2013 Bridgestone Arena Highlights:

  • March 2013, a month that included six sold-out Nashville Predators home games, five consecutive days of SEC Men’s Basketball (13 total games) and four sold-out concerts, saw 329,002 guests walk through the doors of Bridgestone Arena, making it both the most attended month of March in building history, and the second most attended month overall.

Bridgestone Arena is in the process of completing several stages of renovations in an effort to continue to improve patrons’ experiences in the building. These renovations include the installation of a new HVAC system, new carpet in several levels, and the enhancement of the south entrance which will include a retail store, pub and exterior LED boards.

In October, the Nashville Sports Council announced a historic deal with the Southeastern Conference to make Nashville and the Bridgestone Arena the site for twelve consecutive SEC Basketball Championships. The SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament will be hosted nine times (2015-2017, 2019-2021, 2023-2025) and the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament will be hosted three times (2018, 2022, 2026). The Nashville Sports Council has hosted SEC Championship Basketball nine times in the past, most recently hosting the SEC Men’s Basketball Championship in March 2013. The arena will also host the NCAA Women’s Final Four in 2014.

Pollstar Magazine focuses primarily on the concert industry and also reports on news regarding sports and entertainment. The nominating committee is comprised of industry leaders in all facets of the entertainment business, including: arena managers, artists, artist managers, agents and promoters from across the country and abroad. The winner of this prestigious award is determined by the international readership of Pollstar.

Serving as the home for numerous national and international events, Bridgestone Arena has the distinction of being one of the busiest venues in the Unites States over the past decade and a half. Bridgestone Arena was named the sixth-busiest building in the U.S. by Pollstar Magazine in 2010 and 2011 and has been a finalist for their Concert Industry Arena of the Year Award in each of the past six years. Also among the Arena’s accolades is a sixth place spot on Rolling Stone’s “Venues that Rock: The Best Arenas and Stadiums in America” list and a spot at No. 38 on ESPN’s “2013 Ultimate Standings,” a culmination of rankings that ranks Bridgestone Arena No. 13 in “stadium experience” and No. 12 in “affordability.”

 The NHL’s Nashville Predators have been the primary tenant of Bridgestone Arena since 1998 – just two years after the venue opened its doors for its first concert. The list of acts that call Bridgestone Arena home is lengthy and includes the CMA Awards, the CMT Awards, Keith Urban’s “We’re All For the Hall” benefit concerts, Disney On Ice, SEC Men’s and Women’s Basketball and NCAA Men’s Basketball (2000, 2002, 2005 and 2012).
