Stu Grimson visits Picture Me: The Effects of Bullying Project

On Thursday night, Stu Grimson joined Mayor Dean to speak with teens and young adults at the Nashville Public Library for Picture Me: The Effects of Bullying Project. The project, which was funded by the Nashville Predators Foundation, is an ongoing venture put on by the library foundation to inform kids and parents that bullying remains a major problem in the lives of today’s youth. The library has recognized that often teens do not have an outlet through which to express themselves about this important issue, so the Picture Me project was started as a positive outlet for those affected by bullying.

Grimson used experiences from his early life and his experiences as the father of a teenager to talk to the audience about being positive in life and protecting your friends and peers from bullying.

Through the four-week project, teens have an opportunity to capture their thoughts and feelings about bullying and communicate those feelings through photography and written word. Each participant is given a disposable camera to take reflective photos of places where they were either bullied, bullied another or were witness to abuse. Then they choose either their best photo or the photo of the most significant event and write a description of what happened, how it made them feel and how it changed their lives.

The project concludes with an exhibit of the teens’ works at the library. Participants receive weekly incentives to attend the classes and those participants who attend all four weeks are entered into a drawing for a professional camera.

Preds Staff Volunteer with
MADD, Catholic Charities Refugee Service and Hands on Nashville

Friday is Preds Pride Day in Smashville and that means the Preds front office staff are afforded time to get out and give back to the Nashville community. This week, Nashville Predators Radio Play-by-Play Announcer Tom Callahan and Hockey Communications Manager Kevin Wilson ventured to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) TN to help re-organize their office after a busy year of events and fundraisers for a great cause. Tasks include sorting educational supplies and giveaway items, organizing office spaces, moving items to the storage room and much more.

On Friday afternoon, some of the Preds broadcast staff assisted the Catholic Charities Refugee Service with their fresh food giveaway. The fresh food giveaway offers fresh food to the community every first and third Friday of the month. This is a joint venture between Catholic Charities’ Loaves and Fishes and Second Harvest Food Bank.

More Preds staff headed to work with Hands On Nashville’s ReCYCLE for Kids bike program. Through this HON program, more than 300 elementary school aged children will be gifted a pre-loved bicycle to use for play and exercise just in time for the holidays! Preds volunteers helped do a little maintenance – checking tires, fixing rust spots and adjusting seats – before sending bikes on their way.
