With so many things going on in Smashville these days, we at nashvillepredators.com have decided to provide you, the fans, with a weekly recap of what has been going on down in Smashville.

Here you will find information on our community relations activities, youth hockey, events at Bridgestone Arena and upcoming offers for the citizens of Smashville.

 Monday - Nov. 19
On Monday, Nashville Predators goaltending coach Mitch Korn held a Fireside Chat at Bridgestone Arena. More than 125 goalies, from all different ages and skills levels, spent more than two hours learning the craft from one of the top goaltending coaches in the National Hockey League.

During the two-hour discussion, Korn focused on introduction to the position and education on positioning, angles and fitness. The evening was very interactive as the students guided the discussion based on their participation in the event. Korn listened to individual questions and addressed them directly, rather than following a pre-determined lesson plan.

"Playing goal is like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle," Korn said. "In order to understand what you are doing, you have to understand each individual piece to that puzzle. You have to know the shape, the position and the color, if you will. I feel I can contribute more off the ice because I have more tools in this setting – DVDs, Smartboards, etc. – and I can impact more players than I ever could on the ice. There are more than 100 people here – there is no way I could spend enough time with all of them if we were on the ice right now."

Mitch enters his 15th season as the goaltending coach for the Predators and his 22nd season in the NHL. He works with all netminders in the Nashville system, including those playing in Milwaukee (AHL), Cincinnati (ECHL), amateur leagues and Europe. During his tenure in the NHL, Mitch has had the pleasure of working with several All Star caliber goaltenders, such as Dominik Hasek.

Fireside Chats have been a staple of Mitch Korn's career since he began the tradition during his time with the Miami University (Ohio). He recently traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Columbus, Ohio to conduct chats and will soon travel to Florida.

 Tuesday - Nov. 20
Each holiday season, the Nashville Predators organization takes a little extra time to reach out community members in need. On Tuesday, Preds personalities, coaches and staff delivered 40 turkeys and more than 1,000 pounds food to charity organizations across Middle Tennessee in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Associate Coach Peter Horachek and Predators Mascot Gnash visited the Wayne Reed Christain Childcare Center and the Lighthouse Christian School.  Assistant Coach Lane Lambert and Assistant Equipment manager Jeff Camelio delivered holiday goodies to Nashville Inner City Ministries, while Hockey Operations Advisor Brent Peterson, Strength and Conditioning Coach David Good and Gnash traveled to the Community Childcare Center, My Friend's House and the McNeilly Center For Children.

"This is an important time of year for us here at the Preds," Associate Coach Peter Horachek said. "Even though we aren't playing hockey, we still get to come out and help members of the community.  It really puts a smile on my face to see all these kids interact with Gnash and other members of our staff."

The Predators Broadcasting staff was also out-and-about on Tuesday, as Pete Weber and Terry Crisp brought some holiday cheer to the kids at Cottage Cove, while Tom Callahan and Stu Grimson stopped by the Y.E.S. Lindsley Center.  Several members of the Predators front office staff also spent time with children at the Global Education Center.

Nashville Predators turkey deliveries are a long-standing team tradition, kicking off holiday outreach that has been a staple of the organization since before the inaugural season in 1998.
