Productions of the Nashville Predators Broadcasting Department received Midsouth Regional Emmy Award nominations in the “Sports Event/Game – Live” and “Documentary/Historical” categories on Thursday evening. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards will take place Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville.

“It is a tremendous honor to be nominated by our peers for these two awards,” Predators Senior Director of Broadcasting Bob Kohl said. “ Congratulations to our entire broadcast department and the freelancers whose work ethic and professionalism combined to bring our viewers the excitement of playoff hockey as well as a nostalgic visit to the game’s history in Nashville.”

The Predators first nomination in the “Sports Event/Game – Live” category came in partnership with FOX Sports South for their production of Game Five of the 2012 Western Conference Quarterfinals against the Detroit Red Wings. It was the deciding game of the Predators opening round playoff series victory over the Red Wings, a 2-1 victory at Bridgestone Arena on April 20, 2012. Kohl, fellow Predators broadcasting staff members Mitch Jordan, David White, Vickie Chien and Brett Newkirk; on-air personalities Terry Crisp, Pete Weber and Mark Howard; freelance crew members Linda Davis, David Raynak and John Tackett; and FOX Sports executives Rohan Backfisch and Hammond Reynolds are all on the ballot for this award.

The department’s second nomination came in the “Documentary/Historical” category for its production of “Gold Record: 50 Years of Hockey History in Music City.” The hour-long special takes a look back at the history of hockey in Nashville, beginning with the Dixie Flyers in 1962 and working its way to the present-day Predators. Entrants on the ballot were Kohl, Jordan, Predators Executive Vice President Chris Parker and local hockey historian/documentary producer Scott Osborne.

NATAS Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards recognize television excellence in Tennessee, North Carolina (except Asheville), and the television market of Huntsville, Ala.
