Names To Know: A Look At The Prospects Pundits Project At The Preds 9 Draft Picks

The Nashville Predators enter this weekend with nine selections in the 2012 NHL Entry. Today we’ll take a look at those slots and some of the prospects that top draft pundits project to be available around each of Nashville first five selections (through the Preds two fourth round picks).

Please note, Central Scouting creates four final rankings lists – North American Skaters, European Skaters, North American Goaltenders, and European Goaltenders. Because players will be selected from each list, final rankings will likely be better than actual draft selection (ex. since goaltenders and skaters are likely to be selected in the first round, fewer than 30 North American skaters are likely to be selected in the first round, meaning skaters in the top-30 of the final North American skater rankings will still be available at the start of Round 2)

Round 1
No picks (Nashville’s first round selection was traded to Buffalo as part of the Paul Gaustad trade)

Round 2
No. 37 (from TBL – Anders Lindback trade)
NHL Central Scouting: Forward Daniil Zharkov (NA No. 32), Forward Chandler Stephenson (NA No. 33), Defenseman Jordan Schmaltz (NA No. 34), Forward Jarrod Maidens (NA No. 35), Forward Samuel Kurker (NA No. 36)
The Hockey News: Forward Tanner Pearson (No. 36), Forward Mark Jankowski (No. 37), Forward Jarrod Maidens (No. 38)
TSN: Forward Henrik Samuelsson (No. 36), Forward Pontus Aberg (No. 37), Defenseman Jordan Schmaltz (No. 38)

No. 50 (from TBL – Anders Lindback trade)
NHL Central Scouting: Defenseman Trevor Carrick (NA No. 44), Forward Tomas Hyka (NA No. 45), Forward Dane Fox (NA No. 46), Defenseman Jake McCabe (NA No. 47), Defenseman Damon Severson (NA No. 48)
The Hockey News: Forward Daniil Zharkov (No. 49), Forward Henrik Samuelsson (No. 50), Forward Anton Slepyshev (No. 51)
TSN: Defenseman Adam Pelech (No. 49), Forward Tim Bozon (No. 50), Forward Cristoval Nieves (No. 51)

Nashville’s own second round selection was traded to Montreal in the Hal Gill trade

The Hockey News: Defenseman Damon Severson (No. 65), Defenseman Brett Kulak (No. 66), Forward Ludvig Nilsson (No. 67)

Nashville’s own third round selection was traded to Ottawa in the Mike Fisher trade

Round 4
No. 112 (Nashville’s own pick)
NHL Central Scouting: Forward Austin Wuthrich (NA No. 94), Forward Charles Hudon (NA No. 95), Defenseman Nick Ebert (NA No. 96), Forward Matej Beran (NA No. 97), Forward Paul Dejersey (NA No. 98),

The Hockey News and TSN do not release rankings beyond the top-100 overall

No. 118 (from Phoenix – Cal O’Reilly trade)
NHL Central Scouting: Defenseman Doyle Somerby (NA No. 99), Forward Philip Tot (NA No. 100), Forward Adam Gilmour (NA No. 101), Defenseman Joshua Hanson (NA No. 102), Forward Alexander Gonye (NA No. 103)

Round 5
No. 142 (Nashville’s own pick)

Due to the unpredictability of the draft, few draft pundits speculate past the top 100 selections

Round 6
No. 164 (from Florida – Jerred Smithson trade)
No. 172 (Nashville’s own pick)
No. 179 (from NY Rangers – 2011 Draft Day trade)

Round 7
