Watson, Roussel Making Mark at Memorial Cup Tournament

Preds prospects Austin Watson, a first round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, and Charles-Olivier Roussel, a second round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, are both earning top marks for their play in this year's Memorial Cup, the tournament which features the league champions in the three CHL leagues -- the Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and the Western Hockey League.

Watson, who was the MVP of the OHL Playoffs, has scored one goal and two assists through London's first two games in the tournament. He netted the game-winning goal in London's 5-3 win over Saint John, earning No. 1 star honors for his performance in the game. Beyond his production on the scoresheet, Watson is earning high praise for his two-way play and defensive abilities, often being asked to match-up against the top offensive player for the opponent.

Roussel, a defenseman for the QMJHL Champion Saint John Sea Dogs, has one goal and one assist in two games this tournament. He scored the game's opening goal, a shorthanded tally, in Saint John's first game, while posting a +2 plus/minus rating in Saint John's Game 2 win over Edmonton.

Both will play at least two more games in the tournament. Watson and London will close out the round robin tonight against Edmonton; Roussel and Saint John will close out the round robin on Wednesday against tournament host Shawinigan. The teams will then be seeded based on record for the single elimination round with the loser from tonight's game and the loser from tomorrow night's game meeting on Thursday. The tournament semifinals will be played on Friday and the championship game on Sunday.
