Russia Wins \'12 World Championships; Seeding Set For 2014 Olympics

Martin Erat's injury early in Czech Republic's Semifinal match-up against Slovakia hindered the Czech's chances to win the Gold Medal, but Czech Republic rallied after a 3-1 loss to Slovakia with a 3-2 win over Finland to claim the Bronze Medal and earn the No. 3 seed for the 2014 Olympics.

Erat closed the tournament with three goals and one assist in five games, missing the last two periods of the Semifinals and all of Sunday's Bronze Medal game.

Russia knocked off Finland, 6-2, in the Semifinals and followed it up with another 6-2 win over Slovakia in the Gold Medal game. With the win, Russia moved up to No. 1 in the World Rankings; as a result Russia will play in an Olympic Group with No. 6 Slovakia and No. 7 USA, plus an additional qualifier to be determined in February 2013. No. 2 Finland will be seeded with No. 5 Canada, No. 8 Norway, and a qualifier for the 2014 Olympics. No. 3 Czech Republic, No. 4 Sweden, and No. 9 Switzerland will be the top three seeds in the other 2014 Olympic Group.
