By The Numbers: The Race For The West\'s No. 4 Seed
re-edited after Wednesday night's games

With three nights left in the regular season, it remains a three team race for the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference  playoff seeding --- and the final home ice advantage seed in the Conference. Chicago, Detroit, and Nashville are all still potentials to finish No. 4 in the Conference.

Beware, this is written for the detailed stats geek.

Remaining Schedules
Chicago: THU @Minnesota; SAT @Detroit
Detroit: THU vs New Jersey; SAT vs Chicago
Nashville: THU vs Dallas; SAT @Colorado
There you've been warned. If you read on it is at your own peril.

Heading into Wednesday night's games the Preds have 100 points with two more games to play, the Wings have 101 points with two more games to play, and the Hawks have 98 points with two more games to play. The Wings and Hawks close out the season with a head-to-head match-up in Detroit on Saturday afternoon, which clarifies some of the scenarios for the Predators.

Here's a detailed team-by-team look at the various scenarios facing all three teams based on the number of points it wins this week...

Nashville - 2 games remaining / 4 potential points
...with 4 points --- Nashville would be assured at least the No. 5 seed and would earn the No. 4 seed if Detroit earns 3 points or less in its two games; nothing Chicago could do would be able to catch the Preds
...with 3 points --- Nashville would be assured at least the No. 5 seed and would earn the No. 4 seed if Detroit earns 2 points or less in its two games; nothing Chicago could do would be able to catch the Preds
...with 2 points --- Nashville would be assured at least the No. 5 seed and would earn the No. 4 seed if Detroit earns 1 point or less in its two games; nothing Chicago could do would be able to catch the Preds
...with 1 point --- Nashville would earn the No. 4 seed if Detroit earns 0 points in its two games AND Chicago earns 3 points or less in its two games; Nashville would earn the No. 5 seed if only one of those two conditions comes through (Detroit earns 0 points OR Chicago earns 3 points or less); Nashville would earn the No. 6 seed if neither of those conditions come through (if Detroit earns 1 point or more AND Chicago earns 4 points)
...with 0 points --- Nashville would not be able to earn the No. 4 seed and would only earn the No. 5 seed if Chicago earns 2 points or less in its two games; Nashville would earn the No. 6 seed if Chicago earns 3 points or more in its two games

Chicago - 2 games remaining / 4 potential points
...with 4 points --- Chicago would earn the No. 4 seed if Nashville earns 1 point or less AND Detroit earns 1 point or less as long as one of Chicago's wins come in regulation or overtime; Chicago would earn the No. 5 seed if only one of those two conditions comes through (Nashville earns 1 point or less OR Detroit earns 1 point or less plus the regulation/overtime wins conditions); Chicago earns the No. 6 seed if neither of those conditions come through (Nashville earns 2 points or more AND Detroit earns 2 points or more)
...with 3 points (1-0-1) --- Chicago would earn the No. 4 seed if Nashville earns 0 points AND Detroit earns 0 points; Chicago would earn the No. 5 seed if only one of those two conditions comes through (Nashville earns 1 point OR Detroit earns 1 point); Chicago earns the No. 6 seed if neither of those conditions come through (Nashville earns 1 point or more AND Detroit earns 1 point or more)
...with 2 points, 1 point, or 0 points --- Chicago would only be able to earn the No. 6 seed

Detroit - 2 games remaining / 4 pointential points
...with 4 points --- Detroit would earn the No. 4 seed; nothing Chicago or Nashville could do would be able to catch the Wings
...with 3 points --- Detroit would be assured at least the No. 5 seed and would earn the No. 4 seed if Nashville earns 3 points or less; nothing Chicago could do would be able to catch the Wings

...with 1 point --- Detroit would earn the No. 4 seed if Nashville earns 1 point or less AND Chicago earns 3 points or less (or if Chicago earns 4 points provided both Chicago wins come in a shootout); Detroit would earn the No. 5 seed if only one of those two conditions comes through (Nashville earns 1 point or less OR Chicago earns 3 points or less/4 points with the regulation/overtime wins stipulations); Detroit would earn the No. 6 seed if neither of those conditions come through (Nashville earns 2 points or more AND Chicago earns 4 points with the proper regulation/overtime wins stipulations)
...with 0 points --- Detroit would earn the No. 4 seed if Nashville earns 0 points AND Chicago loses in regulation at Minnesota on Thursday; Detroit would earn the No. 5 seed if only one of those two conditions come through (Nashville earns 0 points OR Chicago loses in regulation at Minnesota on Thursday); Detroit would earn the No. 6 seed if neither of those conditions come through (Nashville earns 1 point or more AND Chicago earns at least 1 point at Minnesota on Thursday)
