Long-Time Preds Supporter To Make Smashville Debut This Spring
Each year, scores of people cheer for their favorite team from hundreds or even thousands of miles away. They jump on bandwagons, display their allegiance with a tattoo, decorate rooms in team colors, or name their firstborn after a legend.

But others choose to support their team in a different way. For Holly Hoxeng, it means never going to a game. Hoxeng, who lives in Denver, Colorado, is a Nashville Predators full season ticket holder and has been for five seasons. But she’s never been to a Preds game.

Hoxeng’s story is one that begins with her love of country music and one of its biggest stars, Kathy Mattea, a two-time Grammy winner and Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year. Mattea performed in Colorado at Country in the Rockies, an annual fundraiser benefitting the Francis Williams Preston Laboratories at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center here in Nashville. Hoxeng caught the show and became intrigued by Nashville.

Over time, Hoxeng would visit Nashville to see Mattea play live at the famous Bluebird Café or the Country Music Association Music Festival. She met new people, made new friends and found herself returning to Nashville many times over.

During one of those trips to Nashville, Hoxeng heard radio advertisements for the “Save the Preds” campaign following the 2006-07 NHL season. The organization was in danger of being sold and relocated outside of Nashville.

Hoxeng wanted to help and decided to purchase two tickets. Her decision helped Hoxeng support two causes – she helped keep the Preds in Nashville and she also supports the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville, to which she donates her two season tickets each year.

The tickets that Hoxeng donates are offered to the families who are staying at the Nashville Ronald McDonald House, including outpatient kids and siblings.

Amy Anders, House Operations Coordinator for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville says of Hoxeng’s donation, “It really means so much to our House and our families. Caring for a critically ill child can be extremely stressful. Having an outlet like a Predators game can be just what our families need to take their mind off of a dire situation.”

On March 24, after years of support from nearly 1,200 miles away, Holly Hoxeng will attend her first Predators game ever.
