The Week That Was...
Nashville closed out their west coast road swing last week and also celebrated the 1,000th game in franchise history at home on Saturday. In Los Angeles on Tuesday, the Preds scored three or more goals for the eighth time this season, in a 4-3 loss to the Kings. Rookie goaltender Anders Lindback made his first start of the season and rookie Craig Smith scored his fifth goal of the season. After the game against the Kings, the Preds traveled straight to Anaheim for a match-up against the Ducks on Wednesday night. Nashville improved to 2-0-0 in back-to-back situations in the 4-2 win. This improved Nashville’s road record to 6-3-1 on the road this season. Martin Erat was awarded the 23rd penalty shot in franchise history and converted, giving the Predators their seventh penalty shot goal in history.
The Preds celebrated their 1,000th game in franchise history at Bridgestone Arena on Saturday night against a very fitting opponent, the Montreal Canadiens, the oldest team in the NHL. The game featured a ceremonial puck drop with original captain Tom Fitzgerald, original goalie Mike Dunham, and the Preds first-ever draft pick David Legwand. Nashville picked up a point in the 2-1 OT loss.
Craig Smith (3g-1a) and Patric Hornqvist (1g-3a) led the offense with four points each on the week. In net, Pekka Rinne stopped 54-of-58 shots (.931 save%) with a 1.95 goals against average in two starts during the week.
