The Nashville Predators are once again helping promote wellness and team play in hockey and athletics with the addition of Scales Elementary YMCA Fun Company into the Street Pride family presented by United HealthCare.

To kick off the partnership between Scales Elementary and the Nashville Predators an entire set of street hockey equipment was donated and the Preds hosted a free hockey clinic for the Fun Company after school program. Preds forwards Nick Spaling and Matt Halischuk along with Gnash surprised the students by attending the kick off clinic on Wednesday, October 5 to show the students how to use their newly donated hockey equipment.

“The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is committed to helping youth grow in Spirit, Mind and Body,” School Age Specialist for Brentwood Family YMCA, Meah Perez said. “As part of our curriculum, our YMCA Fun Company Out-of-School Time program strives to provide a variety of daily activities to promote active and healthy living. We are excited about our partnership with the Nashville Predators Street Pride youth hockey program as it is a perfect fit with our youth wellness initiatives and will provide additional active opportunities for our Williamson County youth.”

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is a not-for-profit, worldwide charitable fellowship united by a common loyalty to Jesus Christ for the purpose of helping persons grow in spirit, mind and body. With 29 centers and 297 program locations, the YMCA reaches 284,162 lives—1 of every 6 people in the 12-county area it serves—by nurturing the potential of youth and teens, improving the health and well-being of people in our communities and providing opportunities to support our neighbors.

The NHL organized a league-wide street hockey program, NHL Street, to serve local community centers and schools by providing an athletic and educational program free of charge. The NHL and Nashville Predators have extended this program into the Middle Tennessee area through Street Pride presented by United Health Care, providing street hockey equipment (sticks, rubber pucks, no-bounce balls, nets, and protective goalie gear) and start-up street hockey instruction for coaching and administration. The Predators also provide informative manuals for staff and participants, consistent follow-up with program centers, player/coach clinics and opportunity for participants to attend their first Nashville Predators game. This free grassroots-hockey development program breaks down any socio-economic barriers associated with the program by emphasizing that all a child needs to play hockey is sneakers.

The Nashville Predators would like to invite community centers, schools and other youth groups to consider becoming a part of this program. Participating in the Preds Street Pride program presented by United Health Care gives youth the chance to play the game in communities throughout Tennessee. Today, more than one million kids aged 6-16 across North America have participated in NHL Street. For information please visit nashvillepredators.com/youthhockey.
