Craig Smith Adds 2 More Points, USA Suffers 1st Loss at World Championships
Preds 2009 draftee Craig Smith, one of the youngest participants in this year's World Championships at just 21-years old, picked up a pair of assists in today's Team USA game against Team Sweden, but it wasn't enough as the US fell 6-2 in the final game of Preliminary Round play. Smith is tied for the Team USA scoring lead with four points (two goals, two assists) through three games played

With the win Sweden finished in the first place in the Preliminary Round and Team USA claimed second place. Both teams advance to the Qualifying Round. Team USA will face Canada on Friday, France on Saturday, and Switzerland on Monday.

Sweden opened the scoring with 2:29 left in the first period, but the US answered back with a power-play goal from Cam Fowler just 1:12 later. Smith assisted on the play, his first assist and third point of the tournament.

Sweden gained control of the game in the second period, netting three goals.

Blake Wheeler scored with 9:31remaining to pull Team USA within two goals. Smith registered the lone assist on the play. The Swedes closed out the game with a goal at the 16:01 mark and again at the 18:50 mark of the third period.

Smith, coming off a strong season at the University of Wisconsin, is making his debut for the Team USA men's squad in the tournament. He netted a goal in the tournament opener for the US, a 5-1 win and scored another third period goal in Monday's 4-2 win.
