Preds Prospect Ryan Ellis Joins Elite 300-Point Club
Nashville Predators 2009 first round pick Ryan Ellis picked up three points on Friday night to lead Windsor to a 4-2 win; in doing so Ellis reached the 300-point mark for his OHL career, just the third defenseman in OHL history to record at least 300 career points.

NHL Hall of Famer Denis Potvin holds the OHL defenseman record with 330 career points. Rick Corriveau challenged the mark in the early '90s, finishing his OHL career with 329 points.

Ellis has 45 points in 22 games since returning from the World Junior Championships, where he served as Team Canada's captain. With his three point outing on Friday night, Ellis not only leads all OHL defensemen with 85 points this season, but moved into fifth place in the OHL scoring race this season. His 66 assists also lead league defensemen and are second among all league players. His 85 points and 66 assists are tops among all defensemen throughout the entire Canadian Hockey League (OHL, WHL, and QMJHL). The 66 assists are the third most by any player in the CHL, trailing only Kitchener (OHL) forward Jason Akeson at 78 assists and Red Deer (WHL) forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins at 67 assists.

During this year's World Junior Championships, Ellis posted three goals and 11 points to earn the tournament's Top Defenseman honors. In his three World Junior tournaments, Ellis scored 25 points, the most career points by a defenseman in the tournament’s history, besting the old defenseman mark held by Finland’s Reijo Ruotsalainen in the late ‘70s.
