Preds Recall Defenseman Jon Blum From Milwaukee
- Becomes the club-record 18th Predators draftee to appear on the roster this season -

Instant Analysis
Today's recall provides a nice symmetrical development in Jon Blum’s career. Blum was Nashville’s first round pick in the 2007 NHL Draft – held at Nationwide Arena in Columbus – and now he’s making his NHL debut for the Preds against the Blue Jackets in Nationwide Arena.

In the three and half seasons in-between, Blum has refined his game. He’s been Milwaukee’s best defenseman this season, which is saying quite a bit seeing as the Admirals roster also boasts NHL veteran Aaron Johnson (225 career NHL games) and fellow top prospects Roman Josi (on a 13-game scoring streak) and Teemu Laakso (earned call-ups this season and last season).

“One of Jon’s exceptional qualities is his hockey sense and his ability to read plays and keep himself between his man and the net,” said Preds Assistant General Manager Paul Fenton. “You’re never going to see him as a bone-crusher, but you’re always going to see him on the correct side of the puck and making the right decisions. When we drafted Jon he was 160 pounds, but right now he weighs 190 pounds so, he’s grown into his body. With that he’s gaining more confidence in his strength and size.”

“Blum and Suter are very similar in the way that they think the game. Blum’s game is probably a combination of Suter and Hamhuis. Those guys are very subtle about the way they go about their business, yet they are physical and hard in the tight areas when it can almost go unnoticed. Blum fits into the mold of the defensemen that are thriving in the NHL right now, guys who can make that first pass and be very smart in their own end.”

Nashville, Tenn. (February 22, 2011) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has recalled defenseman Jonathon Blum from Milwaukee (AHL). This is Blum’s first career recall, and he is the 18th Nashville draft pick to appear on the team’s roster this season, surpassing the previous record of 17 set in 2009-10. His expected appearance in the lineup on Tuesday night will mean every Nashville first-round pick from 1998 (David Legwand) to 2007 will have played in the NHL. Blum was selected 23rd overall in the 2007 Entry Draft.

Blum, 22 (1/30/89), is tied for ninth among AHL defensemen, and tied for second on the Admirals in points with 34 (8g-26a). He scored Milwaukee’s only goal in last night’s game vs. Texas, his sixth power-play marker, good for third among League blueliners, and recently reeled off a nine-game point streak (1g-8a) from Jan. 15-Feb. 9, second longest by a defender behind only teammate and 2008 second-round pick of the Predators Roman Josi, who is currently riding a 13-game streak (5g-9a). Now in his second professional season, the former Canadian Hockey League Defenseman of the Year with the Vancouver Giants (WHL) was the first California-born and raised player to be selected in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft.

The Predators finished off their recent four-game home stand, going 2-1-1, and will now make a quick trip to the Buckeye State to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday (6 p.m., FOX Sports Tennessee, 102.9 The Buzz) before returning home to face-off against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday (7 p.m.. FOX Sports Tennessee, 102.9 The Buzz). Thursday’s game is a College Night, where students showing their college IDs at the Bridgestone Arena box office will receive a $10 upper level ticket or a $25 lower level ticket. For every ticket purchased through this special, Best Buy will give you a $10 NAPSTER gift card. Tickets for both home games are still available and may be purchased at the Bridgestone Arena box office, by calling (615) 770-PUCK (7825) or online at nashvillepredators.com.
