Ellis & Team Canada Advance to Gold Medal Match-Up vs Russia
Preds prospect Ryan Ellis and Team Canada beat Team USA 4-1 in the semifinals of the World Junior Championships on Monday night to advance into the Gold Medal Game. The Canadians will meet Team Russia, a 4-3 shootout winner over Team Sweden in Monday's other semifinal. During Preliminary Round action, Canada knocked off Russia 6-3 in the Opening Game of the tournament for both teams.

The Canadian squad got off to a quick start, scoring 2:38 into the game and then adding a second goal midway through the first period. Team Canada added single goals in the second and third periods to build a 4-0 advantage, before Team USA netted a goal with 10:23 remaining in regulation. Ellis was held off the scoresheet, but did post a +2 plus/minus rating for the game. On the tournament, Nashville's 2009 first round pick has two goals and nine points in six games, leading all defensemen in scoring while also serving as Team Canada's captain.

In the earlier semifinal, Team Russia build a 2-0 lead midway through the second period, but Team Sweden rallied with a goal late in the second frame and then netted the equalizer just 1:20 into the third period. Preds prospect Patrick Cehlin (2010 Entry Draft) gave the Swedes their first lead of the game with a power-play goal with just 3:19 left in the game. Team Russia countered 1:52 later to force overtime. After a scoreless extra session, the game went to a shootout, where the Russians registered the only good conversion for the win. Cehlin and Team Sweden will face Team USA in the Bronze Medal Game on Wednesday.

Cehlin has four goals and six points in five games, leading Sweden in both categories and ranking third in the tournament in goals.
