This week, the Nashville Predators stepped out of the rink to participate in a Thanksgiving outreach. Anders Lindback and Nick Spaling were on-hand at Youth Encouragement Services (Y.E.S.) in Nashville for a Nashville Predators Turkey Shoot where they helped youth from St. Luke’s Flood Relief and Y.E.S. win a Thanksgiving meal for their families. Twenty turkeys and 20 hams were donated by Delaware North Companies Sportservice. St. Luke’s Flood Relief also provided 25 turkeys for the event and Brentwood Hills Church of Christ donated side items. More than 200 people were in attendance at the Turkey Shoot where they also got to enjoy other games and activities as well as refreshments, autographs and pictures.

In addition to the Turkey Shoot, this past Monday Nashville Predators staff delivered turkeys and side items to families from Ashley’s Children, Men of Valor, Nurses for Newborns, and Magdalene House. Turkeys were provided by the Nashville Predators and side items were donated by staff.

Youth Encouragement Services strives to enrich the lives of children in inner city Nashville by encouraging them to reach their full potential. Through daily programs such as tutoring, summer camp, a basketball league, job skills training and other recreational and cultural activities, low-income children are given a positive alternative to the streets and opportunities for a bright future.

St. Luke’s is a United Way Family Resource Center (FRC) providing 34 programs to the residents of Old West Nashville. FRC's are assets-based in the services that they provide with a focus on community input. The services offered are holistic in their approach, bringing in numerous community agency partners to provide specialty services. The overall goal is to empower residents to improve their lives and their community by involving them in the process of determining the community's needs while eliminating the duplication of services.
