Preds Sign Finnish Goaltender Atte Engren
Closing Out The Draft Classes
The Preds busy week of prospect signings was
dictated by the upcoming deadline for unsigned
draftees to re-enter the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Nashville successfully came to terms with
Engren, Josi, Lajunen, and Lindback, ensuring
that those top prospects remain in the
organization. Outside of NCAA prospects Jeff
Foss (RPI), Ben Ryan (Notre Dame), and Taylor
Stefishen (Ohio State), the Preds have signed
all 16 of their draftees from the '07 and '08 draft
classes. Collegiate prospects are not allowed
to sign pro contracts, so teams retain the draft
rights to those prospects until after they complete
their college careers.

Nashville, Tenn. (May 28, 2010) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed 2008 draft pick Atte Engren (AH-tay EHN-grehn) to a two-year entry-level contract.

Engren, 22 (2/19/88), is fresh off backstopping TPS Turku to the 2010 Finnish Elite League (SM-Liiga) title. In his first appearance in the SM-Liiga Playoffs, the 6-1, 184-pound goaltender posted a 7-1 record, ranking fourth in postseason goals-against average (1.82) and fifth in save percentage (.936). In 35 regular-season appearances with TPS in 2009-10, Engren also ranked fourth in the Finnish League in save percentage (.921) and ninth in wins (21) after appearing in just six contests for the club in 2008-09.

The Rauma, Finland native was Nashville's ninth choice, 204th overall (seventh round), in 2007 Entry Draft.
