Preds Playoff Preview: Monday Practice Report

Monday, 04.12.2010 / 6:43 PM / Nashville Predators Playoffs Coverage

The Preds began preparations for their 2010 Conference Quarterfinals series with an up-tempo practice today.

Based on practice jersey colors the lines for today were:
Colin Wilson - Jason Arnott - Martin Erat
Joel Ward - Marcel Goc - Steve Sullivan
JP Dumont - David Legwand - Jordin Tootoo
Jerred Smithson - Dustin Boyd - Cal O'Reilly - Nick Spaling
Wade Belak practiced as a defenseman today. Ryan Suter (rest) was the only player not to participate in today's practice, a change in plans with a full week before Friday's series opener.

However, very few of the drills were run as a line and lines will shuffle again with Patric Hornqvist back in the mix, so hard to read much into the set-up.

Notes
Wade Belak dished out the hit of the day, lining up Nick Spaling along the boards during one-on-one contact drills in the second half of today's session. Francis Bouillon's open ice pop on Colin Wilson drew honorable mention.

Injury Report
Joel Ward (sick) practiced for the full session, as did defenseman Denis Grebeshkov (lower body). It was Grebeshkov's first full practice with the team since suffering an injury during the March 7 game vs. Vancouver. Coach Trotz was encouraged by Grebeshkov's progress and stated that the defenseman might be available as early as Friday night's game. As recent as Saturday night, Trotz had ruled Grebeshkov out for the start of the series, but the combination of the later start to the series (Friday versus the rumored Wednesday start) and Grebeshkov's progress today had the coaching staff more optimistic.

Patric Hornqvist (upper body) sat out the start of practice, but joined for the final 20 minutes and then continued for a half hour after practice wrapped up. Hornqvist went through stick handling and shooting drills before concluding with a rigorous skating/cardio workout. Coach Trotz reiterated that Hornqvist would have been fully available had Game 1 been scheduled for Wednesday night, but with the additional two days off opted instead to hold Hornqvist back from a full session today.
