Preds Paul Fenton Named Asst. Coach For USA Select Team
Nashville Predator’s Assistant General Manger Paul Fenton has been named assistant coach to the 2009 U.S. Men's Select Team. Under head coach Peter Laviolette and along side assistant coach Greg Poss, Fenton and the team will compete at the Deutschland Cup from November 6-8 in Munich, Germany.

Fenton is no stranger to USA Hockey. As a player he represented the US at the 1985 and 1988 World Championships. He has voiced that getting the chance to represent the USA once again is a huge honor.

“To be representing your country in an international tournament is always a big honor. As a player it was a huge honor; I actually still have my jerseys from then. This is the same type of feeling for me. It’s always a special feeling when you get to do something like this.”

Fenton, who has been on the management side of hockey while in the NHL the last 17 years, views this experience as a chance to better understand and connect with his current coaches in Nashville.

“I think it’s going to be unique. I have always been in the management side of things so to see it from a coaching perspective I hope educates me even more as to the feelings that happen every game for your coaches. The highs the lows the emotional part of it that is sometimes indescribable until you actually go through it."

The Deutschland Cup has been held every year since 1990 and will feature Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland and the United States. The USA won the tournament in 2003 and 2004. USA Hockey expects to announce this years U.S. Men's Select Team roster over the next week.
