During a ceremony held prior to the Nashville Predators’ February 12 home game against the St. Louis Blues, the Predators organization announced that Malcolm Cardwell and Ann Marie Taylor were named Youth Hockey Player and Youth Hockey Volunteer of the Month, respectively, for February. Cardwell and Taylor were presented with a plaque recognizing their efforts on behalf of the Predators and NHL Alumni Willie O’Ree during the ceremony celebrating that hockey is for everyone as part of NHL Diversity month. The two were nominated and selected as part of a Predators hockey development initiative that will regularly recognize a player and volunteer in the Nashville area.

Cardwell, February Player of the Month, is 11, and plays center for the Nashville Ice Tigers Peewee A team, that plays at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville. Originally from New York, Cardwell took to the sport after watching his older brother play, who is now a sophomore for Blackman high school’s hockey team.

This Blackman Elementary student is a great student and all around athlete. A passionate player, Cardwell started playing in line hockey 6 years ago, and now is in his 4th season of ice hockey. Cardwell’s ice hockey coach Danny Corns comments that “Cardwell is a passionate player that works hard on the ice; he is a very competitive player.” Cardwell is currently ranked third on the team in points.

Having two kids in hockey, mom Marci can be found at the rinks cheering on her boys, but she wouldn’t have it any other way seeing how committed they are to the sport. Cardwell’s passion for playing as a young athlete is why the Nashville Predators have recognized Malcolm Cardwell as the February Youth Hockey Player!

The Nashville Predators are also proud to have named Ann Marie Taylor as the February Youth Hockey Volunteer. Taylor is the coach for the Nashville Ice Tigers Girls U12 team and the Thunder AAA U12 Girls team in Atlanta. In addition, Taylor was recently named as the Southern Amateur Hockey Association Girls/Women’s Chair for the USA Hockey Southeastern District.

Taylor has always been involved in hockey, growing up in the Michigan area near the Canadian border, many members of her family have played the sport. Taylor developed through the Michigan youth hockey programs, but once she moved to Nashville she found her ability to give back to the sport. Taylor believes in the “development of girls’ hockey at all levels” and is sincerely passionate about providing opportunities to girls in the south east, and for this, the Nashville Predators have recognized her as the February Youth Hockey Volunteer!
