Western Conference Notebook: Oct. 20
Entering this week’s play, there are only two unblemished teams remaining in the NHL, both in the Western Conference. Edmonton is 4-0-0 with two home win and two road wins, while Minnesota is 4-0-0 with three road wins and one home win … Every team in the Western Conference has at least one win this season … The Western Conference went 9-5-0 in 14 games against Eastern Conference teams last week and now holds a 11-10-0 mark in interconference match-ups this season … All 30 teams will be in action on Saturday (Oct. 25). All 30 teams will also have a day off on Sunday (Oct. 26).

Central Division
As of games played on Sunday, Nashville and St. Louis had both scored 20 goals this season, tied for the most by a Western Conference team. The Blue have scored half of their goals in the second period (10). Nashville’s goal scoring has been more balanced with 8 first period goals, 7 second period goals, and 5 third period goals … Detroit leads the NHL with 38.8 shots on goal per game … The Red Wings are the least penalized team in the NHL with 7.6 penalty minutes per game … Nashville’s Shea Weber leads all Western Conference defensemen with 7 points this season … There are only two divisional games scheduled for this week: Detroit at St. Louis on Wednesday & Detroit at Chicago on Saturday.

Northwest Division
Northwest Division team have a combined 8 road wins this season (8-7-0 record), the most road wins of any division in the NHL thus far … Edmonton and Minnesota have both been shorthanded 15 times this season, tied for the fewest in the NHL … Colorado has drawn 33 power-play opportunities, most in the Western Conference this season … Minnesota has allowed the fewest goals against in the NHL this season (7) … Minnesota goaltender Niklas Backstrom leads the Western Conference in Goals Against Average (1.71) and Save Percentage (.942) … Vancouver has scored more 5-on-5 goals than any team in the league this season (15) … There are only two divisional games scheduled for this week: Edmonton at Colorado on Thursday & Edmonton at Vancouver on Saturday.

Pacific Division
San Jose has allowed 22.2 shots against per game, fewest in the NHL … Anaheim is the Western Conference’s most penalized team with 24.3 penalty minutes per game. The Ducks have been shorthanded a league-high 36 times in ’08-09 … Entering this week’s games, the Pacific Division has a combined 9-5-1 record at home, but a combined 2-9-0 mark on the road … There are no divisional games scheduled for this week.
