-- Split radio/television format returns for the 2008-09 season --
WGFX will carry all preseason, regular season and post-season Predators games that do not conflict with its previous broadcast commitments, with the complete radio schedule being announced at a later date. All regular-season and playoff games will include a post-game show, with those following home games originating from the Sommet Center’s Suite Level Club.
“The Nashville Predators are pleased to extend our partnership with WGFX and look forward to several more seasons of Predators hockey on The Zone,” said Chris Parker, Predators senior vice president of corporate development. “We are extremely excited to continue our relationship with a station that is a proven leader in the marketplace and actively supports the team as we gear up for another exciting season of hockey.”
This year’s broadcast will feature an exclusive radio broadcast in an effort to better serve the listening audience. A new radio-specific play-by-play announcer, yet to be determined, will call the action for the club’s 55 games that air on FSN South, and will join the longtime team of Pete Weber and Terry Crisp for the other 27 contests.
Several regional affiliates complete the broadcast radio network of the Nashville Predators during the hockey season, as games are broadcast throughout the state of Tennessee, as well as parts of Kentucky and Alabama.
“We’re excited that the Predators will be heard on Nashville’s No. 1 sports station,” said Dave Kelly, WGFX’s general manager and market manager for Citadel Nashville. “We saw the excitement the Nashville community has for Predators hockey down the stretch and into the playoffs last season, and know that will continue to make this a perfect fit. We are thrilled to have the Predators back in our programming lineup.”
WGFX afternoon personality Willy Daunic will be the primary host for radio broadcasts, providing game analysis, player interviews and profiles, NHL scores and highlights before, during and after the final horn. 104.5 The Zone will also continue to be the home of hockey on Nashville’s radio dial in 2008-09, airing player/coach shows, game-day updates, weekly reports and additional weekly programming.
104.5 The Zone features highly-rated morning (The Wake-Up Zone with Mark Howard, Frank Wycheck and Kevin Ingram, Monday-Friday, 6:00-10:00 a.m. CT) and afternoon-drive (The Sports Zone with George Plaster, Willy Daunic and Darren McFarland, Monday-Friday, 3:00-7:00 p.m.) shows, with both welcoming Predators players, coaches and other personnel on as guests on a regular basis. The Sports Zone Pre-Game Show (Monday-Friday, 2:00-3:00 p.m. CT), hosted by McFarland, dedicates an entire show to hockey each week. Additionally, the station hosts a Predators player’s show live in downtown Nashville during the season.
The Predators expect to add a number of regional affiliates to the 2008-09 radio network over the next several weeks.
