Local Youth \"Got Skills\" at Nationals
The fourth Annual “Ace’s Got Skills” program, supported by the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Nashville Predators and operated by RDW Marketing & Media, held its National Championships at the Walter A. Brown Arena Memorial Skating Pavilion in Boston on June 27-29. The event, featured over 130 boys and girls from across the country including 17 players representing the Nashville Predators.

2008 Ace Got Skills National Competition
With 17 players, the Nashville Predators has the best representation of participants from the Western Conference and overall for the 10 NHL teams represented. Western Conference competitions took place on Saturday, July 26, with the top scores in each skills advancing to the National Finals on Sunday, June 29 followed by the All-Star Game were all participants competed in an Eastern vs. Western game.

Modeled after the NHL’s popular All-Star SuperSkills Competition, the “Ace’s Got Skills” program gives players ages 9-12 the opportunity to test their skills in skating, puck handling, shooting, and goaltending categories. Back in February 2007, over 100 local youth hockey players competed in the Ace’s Got Skills Regional competition at Centennial Sportsplex hosted by the Nashville Predators. The top participants were then invited to the Ace’s Got Skills Nationals, held recently in Boston, MA on June 27-29, to represent the Nashville Predators and showcase the development of southeast hockey market.

The Ace’s Got Skills event was launched in memory of Garnet “Ace” Bailey. Ace was an 11-year veteran of the NHL and a two-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Boston Bruins in 1970 and 1972. On September 11, 2001, Ace was performing his duties as director of pro scouting for the Los Angeles Kings when his plane struck one of the World Trade Center Towers.

The Nashville Predators congratulate all participants at the local and national level and are proud to have taken home an impressive 10 individual awards: 6 National Champion; 2 National Finalist; 1 National Runner-up and 1 National Top Skills.
