Predators Sign Goaltender Dan Ellis to a 2-Year Contract
Nashville, Tenn. (June 23, 2008) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed goaltender Dan Ellis to a two-year, $3.5 million contract.

“We have the utmost confidence that Dan Ellis is a No. 1 goaltender in the National Hockey League,” Poile said. “When given the opportunity to display his skill and talent, he rose to the occasion, and was a crucial part of our team making the playoffs in 2008. We believe he, paired with Pekka Rinne, will make for a solid goaltending duo in 2008-09 and beyond.”

Ellis, 28 (6/19/80), led the National Hockey League in save percentage (.924) in addition to tying for third in the NHL and establishing a franchise record in shutouts (6) in his first full season with Nashville in 2007-08. The Newmarket, Ont., native, who had played just one NHL game with Dallas prior to 2007-08, also posted a 23-10-3 record and a 2.34 goals-against average in his first full season in the NHL.

Signed by Nashville as an unrestricted free agent on July 5, 2007, Ellis was an integral part of Nashville’s late-season run which enabled the club to clinch its fourth consecutive playoff berth. Ellis was 17-6-3 in his final 26 decisions, which included a franchise-record 233:38 shutout streak from March 22-30, ranking fifth-best in the League’s modern era. The 6-0, 185-pound netminder also won his first seven career decisions – six of which came with the Predators – tying him for third best in League history for consecutive wins to start a career.

Originally Dallas’ second choice, 60th overall (second round) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Ellis appeared in all six of the Predators 2008 playoff contests, Ellis stopped an average of 37.5 shots per contest, posting a .938 save percentage and a 2.52 goals-against average.
