Patric Hornqvist scored his sixth goal of the tournament and Janne Niskala netted his first of the World Championships as Sweden and Finland each posted 3-2 overtime wins in Quarterfinals action at the 2008 World Championships. The No. 1 seeds Canada (with Dan Hamhuis) and Russia (with Alexander Radulov) both cruised with six goal wins in the other Quarterfinal match-ups. The matchups ensure that at least one Preds player will claim a gold medal at this year's tournament.

Hornqvist scored a power-play goal at the 7:43 mark of the second period to give Sweden a 1-0 lead. Czech Republic answered back midway through the period and then took the lead on Radim Vrbata's penalty shot conversion in the middle of the third frame. The Swedes forced overtime on Marcus Nilson's goal with 3:38 left in regulation. Mattias Weinhandl won the game 3:15 into the extra session, Sweden's second win over Czech Republic in the past three days.

Sweden will meet Canada in the Semifinals. The Canadians scored six times in the final 30:03 of the game to break open a 2-2 tie and cruise to an 8-2 win over Norway. Derek Roy had a hat trick plus one assist to pace Canada's offense. Dany Heatley and Jonathan Toews both added three point performances.

In the other bracket, Finland took the early lead on Tuomo Ruutu's goal 10:14 into the game. Niskala pushed the lead to 2-0 with a power-play tally early in the second period. Team USA forced overtime with a pair of goals 37 seconds apart late in regulation, one by Phil Kessel, the other by Drew Stafford. Sami Lepisto scored 3:59 into OT to send Finland into the Semifinals, Finland's second 3-2 win over the US in the tournament.

Finland will match up against Russia in the Semifinals. The Russian's shut out Switzerland 6-0, scoring twice in the first 2:18 to gain control of the game. They added one more goal before the first intermission and three scores in the second period.
