Pope John Paul II Wins 2008 Predators Cup
Nashville, Tenn. (March 3, 2007) — The Pope John Paul II Knights (25-1-1) defeated the Knoxville Area Metro Pirates (11-8-1), 8-2, to claim their second consecutive Predators Cup Tennessee High School Hockey Championship Saturday evening at the Sommet Center.

Nearly 30 teams from Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville area high schools competed in independent league play for seeding placement into the state tournament. JPII and the Metro Pirates advanced to the penultimate contest of the season by advancing through round-robin play March 8-9, and winning their semifinal contests last night at Centennial Sportsplex.

Teams competing for the 2008 Predators Cup:
Knoxville area high schools: Metro Pirates and Metro Warriors
Memphis area high schools: Collierville and Germantown
Nashville area high schools: Father Ryan, Hendersonville, Pope John Paul II and Ravenwood

The Nashville Predators established the Predators Cup during the 1999-00 season as part of the team’s mission to increase the visibility of hockey on the amateur level in the state of Tennessee. It was established to acknowledge the excellence and dedication of the state’s top high school hockey programs. The Predators Cup features the top teams from the Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville leagues.
