Wal-Mart Partners with Predators to Sponsor Local School Programs
Nashville, Tenn. (March 6, 2008) – The Nashville Predators and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. today announced a partnership making Wal-Mart the sponsor of both the “Teacher of the Month” program, which recognizes Nashville area teachers for their accomplishments, and “Friday Fun Days,” where Predators wives and girlfriends read and present school supplies at local elementary schools.

“We welcome Wal-Mart’s commitment to recognizing the community’s educators,” said Ed Lang, Predators president of business operations. “Not only does this program reward some of the area’s hardest working teachers, but it also promotes the growth of hockey by allowing their students to attend a Predators game.”

Wal-Mart has purchased more than 600 tickets for students to attend Predators games on March 11 vs. San Jose, March 18 vs. Washington and March 25 vs. Columbus. Teacher of the Month recipients from the 2007-08 school year will also be recognized at these three games.

The teachers that will be honored at these three games are:
Arthur Williams of Margaret Allen Middle School (Metro Nashville, Davidson)
Lisa Bowman of Lakeview Elementary School (Wilson County)
Amy Rankin of Kenrose Elementary School (Williamson County)
Jason Simmons of Barfield Elementary School (Rutherford County)
Beth Downs of Bethpage Elementary School (Sumner County)
A Teacher from a Maury County school to be announced later this month

Each Teacher of the Month will receive $100 toward the purchase of classroom supplies at Wal-Mart.

“The Predators have become part of the fabric of this community,” said Dennis Alpert, Wal-Mart senior manager public affairs and government relations. “We want to recognize their outreach to the community and to educators by supporting the team. I can think of no better way than providing an opportunity for hundreds of school children to attend Predator games with their teachers.”

The Predator partnership dovetails with the Wal-Mart focus on education.

“Wal-Mart and its foundation have donated some $67 million to educational efforts in this area,” Alpert said. “Through company-sponsored scholarship programs, 7,200 students received $7.2 million to continue their post-secondary education.”

Wal-Mart also recognized more than 4,000 teachers across the U.S. through its 12th annual Teacher of the Year program, providing more than $5 million to schools in every community where the company has a presence. Other funding went to support initiatives focused on improving high school graduation and adolescent literacy rates, and other education causes.

The programs will be featured through in-arena announcements on the day of the game, in the Predators Press program, on the Predators website as well as on team radio and television broadcasts.
