Predators Announce February Teacher of the Month presented by Wal-Mart

The Predators visited the outskirts of Sumner County where they found a much respected educator at a school that she gives everything to. Beth Downs and her class of 2nd graders were quietly working on a project when an unexpected visitor, Gnash came in to with a cunning smile. Mrs. Downs who has taught at Bethpage for nine years got the surprise of her week when it was announced that she was being presented this honor. Gnash bestowed the teacher with a bag of Predators items for her classroom.
Beth will be attending the Predators game on March 25, where she will be recognized during the game. In addition about 50 students from Bethpage Elementary will spend part of their Spring Break with the Predators at the game with their teacher; Mrs. Downs courtesy of Wal-Mart. Mrs. Downs will also receive a gift certificate for schools supplies to a Wal-Mart store.From Bill Johnson, Bethpage Principal Elementary School:
“Mrs. Downs is an outstanding classroom teacher. She is always the first teacher to arrive daily and often the last to leave. She serves as the chair of our Student Support Team; she is the co-chair of our student S.W.A.A.P. (School Wide Academic Advance Program) where she plans and bakes for our school-wide Title I activities. She serves as a mentor for new teachers. She at the time is chair of Section 3 of our Tennessee School Improvement Plan. The year before last she was chair of the entire Tennessee School Improvement Plan team. She is the lead teacher for our K-2 phonic program. Mrs. Downs is truly devoted to her students and Bethpage School. Beth is married to husband Bo and they have a son named Nathan.”
