10th: Cale Hulse nets OT winner as Preds beat Boston in first OT win at home
January 19, 2001

Mike Dunham made 35 saves and defenseman Cale Hulse scored his first goal of the season at 2:24 of overtime to give the Predators their first extra-session victory in front of a hometown crowd.

Despite a scoreless regulation, the game did not lack action, as the teams combined for 57 shots, 10 power plays and countless scoring chances. Hulse provided the heroics with a backhander from the slot after receiving a pass from playmaker Cliff Ronning.

"You want to watch Cliffy," Hulse said. "He had that one defenseman chasing him down as he started to walk the floor. That opened me up. He made a great play to me, and I used my backhand, and it went in."

Nashville had played 15 previous overtime home games in team history, tying all but two of them. It had also produced six road victories in sudden death before netting the victory over the Bruins at the Sommet Center. Dunham’s solid effort in net was the fifth white-washing in Predators history.

The win gave the Preds some momentum, as they went on to win three straight and seven of their next nine to kick the second half of the season off on the right foot.
