Preds players surprise area students
Predator players Jordin Tootoo, Ryan Suter and Shea Weber visited two area schools today to hand out free tickets to Thursday and Saturday’s preseason game in addition to teaching the importance of education and team work.  The Preds trio walked down Broadway to Hume-Fogg High School before traveling to Bridges Academy in north Nashville.

At Hume-Fogg, the players visited a health and fitness class where they fielded questions from the students and signed autographs. One student had the players sign the cast on his broken leg.  A humorous moment during the visit occurred when a student asked Tootoo what his favorite meal was; smiling, he responded, “Caribou meat.”

The next visit was to Bridges Academy, a school dedicated to helpinginner city school children who primarily come from single-parent homes. Upon entering the school, Principal Derek Young welcomed the players and took them to a fifth-grade classroom.  After handing out more tickets and another question and answer session, Tootoo spoke of the importance of teamwork and respect.

“Treat others just like you want to be treated, when you do that you gain respect from each other,” he said.  “Just like our team, we wouldn’t be able to win games if we all didn’t work together”

When asked what he is most looking forward to about the upcoming season, Weber responded,

“I look forward to seeing what we can do this year, we have a new group of guys and it’s going to be exciting to see these new guys step in and fill some bigger roles.”

In sum, the players handed out 750 tickets to the contest with Atlanta, Thursday, and Carolina, Saturday.
