Predators sign forward Jerred Smithson

Smithson, 28 (2/4/79), appeared in 64 games with Nashville this past season, matching a career-high with five goals. The Vernon, B.C. native was a major contributor to the NHL’s third-ranked penalty-killing unit, leading team forwards in shorthanded ice time per game (3:23). The 6-3, 194-pound pivot also ranked second on the club in face-off winning percentage (237-183, 56.4%).
Originally signed by Los Angeles as a free agent on Feb. 18, 2000 following a successful WHL career with the Calgary Hitmen, Smithson signed with Nashville on July 22, 2004. In 160 career NHL games, he has posted 29 points (10g-19a) and 121 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in eight playoff games with the Predators.
