Preds acquire Leighton on waivers

Nashville Predators Executive Vice President/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has claimed goaltender Michael Leighton (MIGH-kuhl LAY-tohn) on waivers from the Anaheim Ducks. The Predators also activated defenseman Mikko Lehtonen (Mee-koh LEHT-oh-nehn) from injured reserve and assigned him and goaltender Karl Goehring (KARL GAIR-ihng) to the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.

Leighton, 25 (5/19/81), is 8-6-1 with a 2.31 goals-against average and two shutouts in 16 games with the Portland Pirates this season. The 6-3, 186-pound native of Petrolia, Ont. is tied for third in the AHL in wins, is tied for second in shutouts and ranks fourth in goals-against average. Leighton is 8-12-10 with a 2.96 goals-against average in 42 career NHL games with Chicago. He was originally Chicago's fifth choice, 165th overall (sixth round), in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

The Predators (15-5-2) face the Philadelphia Flyers (7-14-3) at 6:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday night at Wachovia Center. The game will be broadcast locally on FSN South and The Zone (WFGX 104.5-FM).
