Three Preds on Team Canada\'s long list

Predators forwards Paul Kariya, Steve Sullivan and Scott Walker have been named to a "long list" of 81 potential players for Canada's men's hockey team at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin, Italy. Team Canada executive director Wayne Gretzky, along with head coach Pat Quinn and Team Canada's management and coaching staff, announced the list on Wednesday.

The three Predators currently rank as the top scorers for Nashville. Through five games, Sullivan has 10 points (4 g, 6 a), Kariya has 7 (2 g, 5 a) and Walker has 5 (1 g, 4 a). Sullivan is in a four-player tie for the NHL scoring lead.

Kariya won a gold medal with Canada at the 2002 Olympic Games and a silver at the 1994 games. The 2006 Olympic Games would be the first for either Walker or Sullivan, who have represented their homeland in international competition during multiple World Championships. The two served together as assistant captains for Team Canada at the 2001 World Championships in Germany.

According to an international agreement, all countries participating in Olympic men's hockey must submit a long list of potential players prior to an Oct. 24 deadline. The countries are then required to select their final rosters of 23 players from these long lists on or before Dec. 22.
