Preds complete first phase of camp

Friday's action at Centennial Sportsplex wrapped up the first phase of training camp for the Nashville Predators. The camp roster was reduced for the first time ”from 56 players to 48 ”and three days of round-robin scrimmages among the three camp teams concluded with a lively match between groups A and C. Forward Alexander Radulov and defenseman Ryan Parent ”Nashville's 2004 and 2005 first-round draft picks, respectively ”each continued their strong showings in Friday's game, and have earned trips into camp's second phase. That phase begins Saturday and will result in new camp groupings, as the remaining players will be split into only two teams for practice and scrimmaging purposes.

A notable performance from the line of Steve Sullivan, Scottie Upshall and Yanic Perreault led Group A to a 4-2 advantage once the book was closed on two 30-minute periods and a five-minute four-on-four session. As in Thursday's scrimmage, however, fortunes changed in the scheduled shootout that followed. Adam Hall, Scott Nichol, Darren Haydar and Vernon Fiddler each beat goaltender Tomas Vokoun in one-on-one showdowns to give Group C a 4-1 victory in the shootout portion.
