Saving the day — If not for Dan Ellis' heroics Tuesday night, the Nashville Predators would have been more doomed than Corey Feldman's film career.
The Predators' netminder made 54 saves, 41 through the first two periods, and Ville Koistinen scored 2:28 into overtime as Nashville garnered a 4-3 victory against the San Jose Sharks at HP Pavilion.
The loss was San Jose's first on home ice this season.
''We stole this game,'' Trotz said. ''Danny Ellis stole it, bottom line. He's the reason we won. They were letting us hang around. They kept us on life-support, then we got off the table and scored a goal. I am absolutely thrilled we won a game we shouldn't have.''

ESPN.com's Top Performer of the Day for his 54-save
overtime win at San Jose on Tuesday night. Ellis's performance set the team record for save in a game, besting the 52-save outing by Mike Dunham on Oct. 21, 1998 at Detroit and was only the third time in team history that a Preds goaltender has posted a 50-save performance during the regular season.
Ellis made 52 saves in Game 5 of last season's Western Conference Quarterfinals playoff series at Detroit, the only other 50-save performance of Ellis's NHL career. Ellis's previous regular season career-best was 43 saves, set in a shutout at Columbus on March 28 of last season.
