With no games on the schedule for today, Training Camp went back to a two-session split. Both the early morning group and the late morning group spent the sessions running through drills. Todays practices spent a good deal of time working on special teams situations -- power-plays and penalty kill, before finishing the session with a shootout drill.

The coaches used the practice sessions to switch up some line combinations and try some different pairings, most notable being Jordin Tootoo on a wing with David Legwand with Martin Erat.

Quote Book
Head Coach Barry Trotz
"It was a good work day. Today probably wasn't as taxing as the last couple of days, but it was still a pretty good day. The first 45 minutes were a pretty good tempo; got some good work in, tried to get some work in on the special teams, which is always tough to do during the preseason because you have different personnel, different units. So we're trying to get everyone on a little bit of the same page."

"I'm really impressed with the young defense out of Milwaukee. Sulzer and Laakso and Blum those guys have really done a good job."

On the upcoming preseason games...
"I think you can practice all you want and there are guys who look great in practice and you put them in a game and they disappear. And there are guys who don't look great in practice, but you put them in a game and all of a sudden they re-appear. The guys have practiced a week now, so they want to get at it."

On whether the coaches are looking more at team results or individual results in these preseason games...
"We'll be looking at individuals. Especially at those key battle spots, we'll be looking individually and then collectively as a team that will come secondary tomorrow. We'll try to do a lot of it from the bench and then afterward we'll be taking stuff from the game and using it as a teaching tool."

On switching up players among the two practice groups...
"Originally I had Arny with JP and Hornqvist and then I put Peverley in there and they had a lot of chemistry today. so we changed them up. You get one or two guys that either pull a groin or bumped up and all of a sudden you're changing all your lines. That's part of training camp."

On Jordin Tootoo skating with Legwand and Erat...
"I think we have to see in the games, but if you're going to be a top-six player then you have to play with top players. I'm trying to put him with Arny and JP or Leggy and Marty and give him more time; play with a little more high end offensive players. He's getting there. He's got a lot more patience, a lot more poise with the puck. Obviously we know he can shoot it and he gets on the forecheck hard. We keep reinforcing that he's got a lot of ability, he has to just relax and do his own thing."

On the shootout drill at the end of practice and the importance of the shootout points...
"It's going to factor. You look, Edmonton got 14 extra points last year in a shootout. If you don't have a shootout and you get just one point for a tie, then they're not even in the playoff picture last year. So, it can be a big factor getting in. (Last year) we had teams chasing us, we lose two or three games in the shootout more than the team that's chasing us and we're out and they're in. It's a big factor. We've got some guys who we think will be pretty good at it; Koisty (Ville Koistinen) is pretty good at it, Hornqvist, I think, is going to be pretty good at it. There's two guys we didn't have playing a lot last year; like Koisty played around half the games last year. I think we'll be fine. Rich Peverley seems to have a knack for it. So, I think we'll be better at it."
