Middle school students can try hockey for free at G.N.A.S.H. Bash

Beginning today, parents with children in grades 5 through 8 can sign their kids up for the G.N.A.S.H. Bash, a four-week, eight-hour try hockey instructional program sponsored by the Greater Nashville Area Scholastic Hockey League (G.N.A.S.H.). The program, designed to introduce the game of hockey to kids that have never played before, takes place at the brand-new Ford Ice Center in Antioch. The G.N.A.S.H. Bash is free and loaner equipment and skate rental will be also be available free of charge.

G.N.A.S.H., which includes 18 teams in the Greater Nashville area, is dedicated to supporting the growth and quality of high school hockey in Middle Tennessee. Through receiving a Nashville Predators Foundation Grant, G.N.A.S.H. is able to host events like the G.N.A.S.H. Bash to introduce students, who may be interested in playing high school hockey in the future, to the sport for free.

What: G.N.A.S.H. Bash

Who: Students in grades 5-8 with no prior hockey experience

Where: Ford Ice Center (5264 Hickory Hollow Parkway, Antioch, Tenn.)

When: August 20, 27 and September 3, 10 from 6-8 p.m.

Coaches from many of G.N.A.S.H.’s member schools and the Nashville Predators Youth Hockey department will help teach kids fundamentals of the game of hockey, including strides, stops/starts, turns and crossovers, backward skating, stick handling, passing and shooting.

The G.N.A.S.H. Bash is just the start of the exciting new hockey programming that will be coming to Ford Ice Center when it officially opens this fall. Programs like the Predators’ popular Get Out and Learn! (G.O.A.L!), Learn-to-Skate, house leagues and more will make their homes at Ford Ice Center in addition to continuing programs at A-Game and Centennial Sportsplex. With two additional sheets of ice in the Nashville area, the sport of hockey is on track to continue growing in Middle Tennessee.

ABOUT NASHVILLE PREDATORS YOUTH HOCKEY

The Nashville Predators are dedicated to enhancing awareness and creating opportunities for youth hockey in Middle Tennessee.
