January 16 – April 6, 2003: Vokoun starts 38 consecutive games to end 02-03

Though is recent years Pekka Rinne has begun overtaking or challenging many of his records, former Predators goaltender Tomas Vokoun still holds the most impressive ironman streak in franchise history. It largely goes unnoticed, but Vokoun started the final 38 games of the 2002-03 season; no other goalie has taken to the net in more than 25 straight for the club.

The stretch had its fair share of ups and downs, as the Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic native backstopped a pair of four-game winning streaks and a 4-1-1 stretch in late January, but also saw the Predators go winless for the final 15 games of the year. It also saw him blank back-to-back opponents for just the second time in team history – a 5-0 rout of Columbus on Feb. 25, and a 6-0 beating of Pittsburgh two days later.

2002-03 was quite the transition for Vokoun – he started the year as Mike Dunham’s backup yet started 69 of 82 games on the season, finishing with a stellar 2.20 goals-against average and .918 save percentage. The coming-of-age season prepared Vokoun for what was to come in 2003-04, a season when he led Nashville to a franchise record in victories and the first playoff berth in franchise history.
